The 5 Stages of Our Curriculum Development Process
Not Just for Higher Ed—Though We Do That Too
At Edlumina, we’ve spent the last 13+ years partnering with schools, businesses, and organizations to design curriculum that’s compliant, relevant, and engaging. While we’re well-known in the private postsecondary education sector, we also develop custom courses for industries across the board—from workforce training and licensure programs to corporate learning and professional development.
Whether you're looking to build a course from scratch or convert existing content into an engaging online format, our approach is the same: purposeful, strategic, and outcomes-driven.
Our 5-Stage Curriculum Development Process
We follow a proven five-step process that ensures your course meets your organization’s goals and serves your learners effectively—regardless of the subject matter, delivery model, or industry.
1. Analyze & Research
We begin by partnering with you to gather the key data points that define your course. Who is the learner? What skills or outcomes should they walk away with? What compliance or credentialing benchmarks need to be met? These insights form the foundation for everything that follows.
2. Design
Next, we map out the structure of your course—from the overall flow to individual learning objectives. Our team develops lesson plans, drafts course materials, and identifies the best types of assessment tools for your content. This stage ends with a working prototype to give you a preview of your course in action.
3. Develop
This is where the course comes to life. We create your multimedia content, build out quizzes and interactive activities, and integrate everything into a learner-friendly format. If the course is digital, we make sure it's optimized for our Learning Management System (LMS) or yours.
4. Implement
Think of this as the dress rehearsal. We conduct a pilot to make sure everything—from navigation to content flow—is smooth and accessible. We also ensure your instructors and facilitators have the materials and tools they need for success.
5. Evaluate & Launch
Quality control is embedded throughout our process, but final reviews and feedback wrap up the development. We make revisions based on testing and client feedback before handing off a finished, ready-to-deliver course.
So… How Long Does It All Take?
That depends. Factors like your level of involvement, the number of courses, accreditation or licensure requirements, and final delivery format (online, in-person, hybrid) all impact the timeline. Some courses may take weeks. Others, several months. Either way, our team keeps the process clear and collaborative every step of the way.
